Viceroy Bali

Viceroy Bali is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and has a very beautiful jungle location only five minutes from the centre of Ubud. The Viceroy opened in 2005, but I was lucky enough to stay in one of their new villas which was only 2 months old. The arrival experience could have been better. Viceroy didn’t stop the car at the gate and the staff was not prepared for my arrival. Not the best first impression. I really like the staff to be prepared for a great arrival instead of having to feel like checking into a city hotel. After a little time they found my reservation and I was given a drink and a cold towel.

Following a short introduction to the resort, I was escorted to my villa. A beautiful villa and as I told in the beginning, only 2 months old. Beautifully designed, 150 square metres including a private swimming pool, comfortable bed, huge rainshower and natural balinese produced products in the bathroom. The villa didn’t have any welcome amenities which would be a thing to improve and the minibar is chargeable and quite expensive. The internet is on the other hand complimentary, but unfortunately slow, even for Bali standards.

What makes Viceroy special is the size and location. Only 25 rooms total which makes personalized service possible, but only partly worked. Some staff were truly fantastic, while others surely need a lot more training. I was surprised the restaurant staff asked for my room number when we had a conversation at dinner last night. The restaurant is called CasCades and is based on French cuisine with an Asian twist. It was really good and among the better meals I’ve had in Bali. That being said I would actually say breakfast was a better experience as it was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Á la carte and with lots of high quality choices.

Viceroy is a really intimate resort and don’t have many facilities. A gym with out-dated facilities, a small business centre with two computers, a library and finally a spa with a few facilities. Finally it’s worth to mention Viceroy’s complimentary transfer service to areas within Ubud which is very valuable as you can go anywhere, whenever you want.

Overall Viceroy isn’t far from Bali’s best resorts and it’s a wonderful experience in many ways. I really enjoyed it and I am delighted to have Viceroy Bali part of Hotel Passion.

My opinion: Great+ experience.
