Regent Esplanade Zagreb

Regent is a smaller luxurious brand with a few top class hotels. It used to be part of the Carlton group but now stands on its own. I always wanted to visit Zagreb and since I always want to stay in the best it was clear this hotel was the only choice for a true luxury hotel in this city. The hotel has received excellent reviews on Tripadvisor and has been included in Condé Nast Travelers Gold List in the past years. Based on this I arrived at the hotel with high expectations. When I arrived, I was surprised to see only one receptionist and that I had to wait for check in. After 2 minutes wait, I could finally check in and after I requested an upgrade I was happy to get into one of their junior suites.

Surprisingly enough there was no escort to the room, and I took the elevator up alone. The room was great in many ways, but it’s one of those few 5-star hotels that hasn’t replaced their Tv’s with flat screen yet. However, the general manager wrote on Tripadvisor that they would be replaced very soon after many people have complained about this. Perfectly understandable, I’m wondering why it could take such long time for them. Apart from the Tv’s the junior suite is very beautiful and comfortable. The facilities includes a nice health club, restaurants and business centre. The breakfast was great with excellent service and food.

Overall it’s worth inclusion in the top1000 best hotels in the world, but I don’t agree with people that believe this is among the very best in Europe. Surely the best in Balkan, but still far from the very best in the world.
