Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah is a classical hotel which first opened its doors in 1895 and now are 115-room hotel. The location is in the center of Istanbul with many interesting tourist sights in the neighbourhood. The check in was really nice and I received a warm welcome.
Pera Palace is unfortunately not a smoke free hotel and I very specifically requested a non smoking room and was told my room was non-smoking. I was escorted to the room and the first thing I was was an ash try. Hotels can make mistakes, but it’s how they make up for them that’s important. The receptionist apologized and gave me another room which thankfully was non-smoking.
I stayed in a Deluxe Room which was very small for a Jumeirah, but still up to a high standard. Comfortable bed, flatscreen Tv, working desk and the highlight: Incredible views of Istanbul. Many chain hotels still charges for internet, but not Jumeirah. High speed complimentary wifi made the stay very enjoyable as I hate chargeable internet.
The service at Pera Palace was partly up to the high Jumeirah standards. Some of the staff were truly great with an excellent attitude, while some could need more training. The restaurant staff didn’t impress me much, but the food was very good.
To sum up Pera Palace might not be one of Jumeirahs best properties, but keep in mind the Jumeirah brand is one of the world’s bests and Pera Palace still delivers a great experience in a historical hotel.
My opinion: Great experience.
