Fastjet: A Revolutionary Airline in Africa

It is a great pleasure to announce the latest sponsor of my journey to all countries and territories. Dar es Salaam-based Fastjet is a revolutionary airline bringing the succesful European low cost concept to Africa. With fares starting at 20 dollars for domestic tickets and 75 for international, Fastjet is many times cheaper than its competitors. Fastjet’s Marketing Manager, Jai Gilbert explains the concept: “-Our vision is to become a Pan African airline within the next 5-10 years serving the whole of Africa. At present we operate from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza, Mbeya, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and Internationally to Johannesburg and as of 1st Feb to Lusaka. Our next destinations on our list are Nairobi, Entebbe, Mozambique and Nigeria. Of course, it all depends on the success of gaining route licenses as to how long it will take us to achieve these new destinations. We are also working with the government of Zambia with possibly setting up a hub and serving domestic routes out of Zambia.” Says Gilbert to Fastjet sponsored a round trip ticket from Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg, which was very helpful for the project. Things are moving forward every day, but with 324 countries and territories, it is about being patience.
