Biras Creek Resort

Biras Creek Resort used to be a Relais & Châteaux, but is now on it’s own with new General Manager and an ongoing renovation. The property is 30 minutes boat ride from Tortola International Airport and the arrival experience is very beautiful. The rooms at Biras Creek Resort indeed need the renovation, but are still charming and fully comfortable. The mini-bar is complimentary and the internet is high speed which were two pleasant surprises. There is no Tv’s in the room as it’s part of the Biras concept. The shower is located outdoor which is a nice feature I always like, but don’t see too often in The Caribbean. It’s more of a standard in Asian resorts, but I’m sure it will be a standard in most resorts over time.

The most important thing in a resort is always the service and first of all it makes a difference that this is a british territory. In this part of the world you find many destinations where English isn’t the first language and even in the best resorts that can be a problem. The staff are very kind and some Americans works here as well which only helps the resort. The Americans were professional and well-trained which made a difference. I experienced a small problem at lunch and the American lady at the reception fixed it kindly and quick. The food was on the other hand not up to my expectations. As said earlier, it used to be a Relais & Châteaux which always means fine dining with Michelin or close to Michelin-level. My dinner was very good, but not comparable to other Relais & Châteaux properties and could be the reason why they are no longer a Relais & Châteaux as food is their highest priority.

There are 31 rooms total in Biras Creek Resort and it is indeed a beautiful personalized experience. Biras Creek Resort also know what guests wants. They don’t charge for mini-bar, internet and several activities such a boat transfers to other islands. Unusual and a great value point for guests. To sum it, I would definitely like to return. Compared to other resorts it feels much more like a Preferred Boutique or Small Luxury Hotels of the World-property than a Relais&Châteaux and I hope they’ll join one of them soon to get the recognition they deserve.

My opinion: Great experience.
